Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, has donated medicines and state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment worth millions of naira to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital (FUHSTH), Ila-Orangun.
Some of the equipment, which was specifically meant for the Haematology unit of the hospital's Medical Laboratory Science Department, include a blood bank refrigerator, a binocular microscope, five packs of haematology auto analyser, an electrophoresis machine, and a minus 80-degree Celsius freezer. Others are a microplate washer, a microplate reader, as well as reagents and other laboratory consumables.
The donation forms part of the lawmaker's efforts to improve healthcare delivery in Ila-Orangun and its environs. The items are expected to benefit not only residents of Osun Central but also patients from neighbouring towns who visit the hospital.
Speaking during the presentation, the Senator, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Special Duties, Apostle Omotayo Babalola, said the gesture was inspired by his commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
"The Senator believes that no community should be left behind when it comes to quality healthcare. This donation is his way of giving back to the people who gave him the mandate to represent them," he said.
Apostle Babalola urged the hospital's management and staff to put the items to proper use so that they reach those who need them most.
"The Senator will continue to support the health sector and other areas that touch the lives of the people," he added.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Musiliudin Kolawole Owonikoko, commended Senator Fadeyi for his generosity. He noted that it was not the first time the lawmaker had contributed to the growth of the hospital, and he appreciated his continued support.
Prof. Owonikoko also lauded the Senator's gesture to improve healthcare in rural areas, stressing the positive impact such contributions have on communities that often lack access to quality medical services.
In her remarks, the Director of Medical Laboratory Science, Mrs Bello Folake, maintained that the initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen critical sectors, including healthcare.
"Strengthening the hospital's diagnostic capacity will significantly improve service delivery and reduce the burden of accessibility and affordability on patients," she emphasized.
Present at the handover ceremony were the Assistant Director, Medical Laboratory Science, Mr Ibrahim Kazeem; Assistant Director, Procurement, Mr AbdulRahman Lukman; Head of Works, Engr. Ogunmodede Rafiu; and Head of Store and Supplies, Mr Adebayo Rahman.
