In accordance with the tradition of the nursing profession, the Nursing department of the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ila-Orangun (FUHSTHI), on Monday, 24th August, 2026, held an orientation programme for the newly transited nursing students from its university arm, the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI).
The students were hosted by the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Kola Musliudin Owonikoko, alongside senior Nursing Officers of the hospital, including the Deputy Director of Nursing Services and current Acting Director of the department, Mrs. Aderemi Adejoke Deborah.
In his address at the hospital's boardroom before the commencement of the event, Prof. Owonikoko welcomed the new students to the hospital and commended the hard work and determination they had put into making the transition. "That you're here today is an eloquent testimony that greater things are coming your way," he said.
He charged them not to relent in their hard work and focus, and to aim high in order to attain the honour of becoming ambassadors of their university in the nearest future.
The Acting Director of the department, Mrs. Aderemi Adejoke Deborah, while addressing the nursing students, reminded them that their journey towards a successful nursing career had only just begun, and urged them to align their conduct with that path from the outset.
"We will be guiding you throughout your stay in this institution to ensure you are always on the right path to success," she said. She therefore encouraged them to always seek help from available nursing staff whenever necessary, and to maintain the best and most admirable conduct.
She encouraged the students not to take the exercise with a pinch of salt, but rather see it as an avenue to broaden the frontiers of their knowledge of the nursing profession.Added that examinations are conducted for students after clinical posting, and that a poor outing in the clinical and Nursing Council examinations could deprive a student-nurse of registration with the Nursing Council.
