Head of Works and Maintenance Unit
Engr. Ogunmodede, Rafiu Oyaniyi is a seasoned facilities management and engineering professional currently serving as the Head of Works and Maintenance Unit at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital (FUHSTHI), Ila-Orangun. With over two decades of progressive experience in hospital engineering, building maintenance, and infrastructure management across leading tertiary healthcare institutions in Nigeria, his career is anchored on a strong academic foundation and extensive hands-on technical expertise.
He obtained his Ordinary National Diploma (O.N.D.) in Engineering from Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, in 2008, and proceeded to earn a Higher National Diploma (H.N.D.) from Federal Polytechnic, Offa, in 2015. His academic pursuit culminated in a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) degree from Kwara State University, Malete, in 2022. He completed his secondary education at Baptist Secondary Grammar School 2, Ahoyaya, Ogbomoso, where he obtained his NECO certificate in 2010.
Engr. Ogunmodede began his career at FUHSTHI providing essential technical support in the maintenance and repair of hospital facilities, assisting in the supervision of building services, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure operational efficiency. He has continued to serve at the institution to date, rising through the ranks to assume leadership responsibilities that now define his current role as Head of Works and Maintenance Unit.
In his capacity as Head of Works and Maintenance, he oversees the comprehensive planning, coordination, and execution of maintenance operations across all hospital facilities. He supervises teams of technical staff and contractors, manages electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering systems, ensures strict compliance with safety regulations and quality standards, and drives preventive maintenance strategies that minimise downtime and extend the lifespan of critical hospital infrastructure.
His core competencies span facilities and infrastructure management, project supervision, contractor management, technical reporting, budget estimation, and stakeholder collaboration. He deploys these skills to support the hospital's mandate of delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centred healthcare services in a well-maintained environment.
Beyond his technical expertise, Engr. Ogunmodede is recognised for his strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation, honesty, and transparency. He demonstrates the ability to take initiative, adapt swiftly to challenging situations, accept responsibility, and work effectively without supervision, while maintaining the physical and mental alertness required to perform under demanding conditions.
His professional interests are focused on healthcare infrastructure development, preventive and predictive maintenance systems, facilities management in public health institutions, project planning and implementation, safety and risk management, and technical capacity building. He remains committed to operational excellence, sustainability, and institutional growth through continuous improvement in works and maintenance services.
