Biography
Mrs. Samuel Iyanuoluwa Hannah is a Registered Dietitian and Public Health Nutrition professional who currently serves as the Head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Unit at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital (FUHSTHI), Ila-Orangun, Osun State. She is passionate about advancing clinical nutrition, community health promotion, and evidence-based nutrition practice. With a strong background in clinical care, public health, research, and healthcare administration, she is recognized for her leadership, organizational competence, and collaborative approach to improving health outcomes.
Born and raised in Ibadan, Oyo State, Mrs. Samuel began her education at Living Proof International School, where she obtained her Primary School Leaving Certificate in July 2005. She proceeded to Success High School, Ibadan, and earned her Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) through the National Examinations Council (NECO) in June 2012.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ibadan in March 2018 and subsequently earned a Master of Public Health (MPH) with specialization in Population and Reproductive Health Nutrition from the same institution in 2023. She became a licensed Dietitian following her registration with the Institute of Dietetics in Nigeria in November 2019 and successfully completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in April 2019.
Mrs. Samuel is fluent in English and Yoruba and works effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural environments. She enjoys writing, research, networking, and mentoring young professionals. Professional Experience
Mrs. Samuel has built a distinguished career spanning clinical nutrition, public health, healthcare administration, research, education, and programme management.
She currently serves as the Head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Unit at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital (FUHSTHI), Ila-Orangun, Osun State, where she oversees departmental administration and the delivery of clinical nutrition services. She provides leadership in patient care, departmental planning, policy implementation, staff supervision, and quality improvement initiatives while promoting evidence-based nutrition practice within the institution.
Prior to her current role, she worked as a Consulting Dietitian with Future Minds Development Initiative (eDokita) from April 2025. In this position, she conducted comprehensive nutrition assessments, delivered individualized nutrition counselling through virtual and physical consultations, developed therapeutic meal plans, managed the Nutrition Clinic, coordinated wellness programmes, created health education content, facilitated cooking demonstrations, and collaborated with multidisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes.
Between January 2023 and March 2025, she served as both Consulting Nutritionist and Medical Coordinator at Online Health Company Limited as a Consulting Nutritionist, she assessed clients' nutritional status, lifestyle patterns, and dietary habits to develop personalized nutrition care plans and provide continuous nutrition counselling. Concurrently, as Medical Coordinator, she coordinated clinic operations, managed patient scheduling and medical records, maintained clinical documentation, ensured adherence to administrative protocols, monitored medical supplies, prepared medical reports, and facilitated communication between healthcare providers and patients.
From January to December 2022, she served as Consulting Dietitian and Head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Pentacare Hospital, Ilorin. During this period, she successfully established the hospital's Nutrition Clinic from inception by developing the start-up proposal, departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and service delivery framework. She introduced therapeutic feeding as part of inpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy, developed culturally appropriate nutrition education materials, and implemented strategic awareness campaigns that increased clinic attendance by over 50% within two months. She also conducted nutrition-related research, presented findings to management, and participated in community medical outreach programmes.
In November and December 2021, she worked as a Food and Nutrition Tutor at The International School, Ibadan, where she delivered classroom instruction, prepared teaching materials, assessed students, and maintained academic records.
She served as a Dietary Interviewer for the National Food Consumption and Micronutrient Survey in January 2020, contributing to household listing, community mobilization, pilot testing of research instruments, and electronic data collection using CommCare.
Between August and September 2019, she worked as a Research Assistant on the Ibadan Kids Health and Nutrition Survey at the University of Ibadan. Her responsibilities included household listing, pilot testing of questionnaires, electronic nutrition data collection using ODK, data cleaning, and database management.
During her Dietetics Internship at Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital from April 2018 to May 2019, she conducted nutrition assessments, provided dietary counselling, developed individualized nutrition care plans, monitored patients' nutritional progress, participated in ward rounds, delivered health education sessions, and volunteered at the ART Clinic to promote treatment adherence among patients.
Earlier, during her Industrial Training at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, between December 2016 and February 2017, she assisted with therapeutic meal preparation and distribution, participated in clinical ward rounds, managed patient meal documentation, and supported inventory management within the Dietetics Department.
Research And Leadership
Mrs. Samuel has consistently demonstrated leadership, innovation, and research excellence throughout her professional career.
As the current Head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Unit at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, she provides strategic leadership for clinical nutrition services, mentors junior professionals, oversees departmental development, and contributes to institutional policy implementation and service improvement.
Her leadership experience also includes serving as Head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department at Pentacare Hospital, where she established a fully operational Nutrition Clinic and successfully implemented systems that significantly improved service delivery and patient patronage.
From March 2023 to October 2025, she served as Programme Coordinator for the Young Advocate Network, where she coordinated programme planning, stakeholder engagement, community outreach activities, social media campaigns, and organizational events while ensuring effective programme implementation.
Since June 2021, she has served as Head of the Content Unit at Emerald Food and Nutrition International. In this role, she leads public health research, coordinates educational content development, supervises content teams, and plans community nutrition education and health intervention programmes.
Earlier, between 2015 and 2017, she served as Secretary of the Association of Nutrition Science Students Electoral Committee at the University of Ibadan, where she coordinated administrative activities, documented electoral processes, managed correspondence, and supported effective committee operations.
Her volunteer experience includes serving as Consulting Nutritionist at Pharmaris Clinical Pharmacy in 2020, providing nutrition counselling and follow-up services to clients, as well as serving as a Public Health Speaker for the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Ekiti State Branch, in 2018, where she delivered nutrition education during training camps and community programmes.
Mrs. Samuel has participated in several research projects, including the National Food Consumption and Micronutrient Survey and the Ibadan Kids Health and Nutrition Survey. She is proficient in the use of digital research and data management platforms, including ODK, SurveyCTO, KoboCollect, REDCap, and Avenza Maps. She is equally skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and virtual collaboration platforms.
